When MTC storage comes up

The most common reasons storage gets added to a move

• Property chain timing — completion on the old property slips, completion on the new one doesn't. Goods need somewhere to live for a few days or a fortnight before the destination is ready.
• International move timing — UK property completes ahead of the European destination. Storage on either side covers the gap; common on Spanish and Portuguese moves where the destination notary date slips.
• Downsizing in stages — moving to a smaller property in two phases: keepers go straight to the new address, the rest goes into storage until a decision is made (sell, donate, keep).
• Renovation between move and unpack — destination property needs work before the contents go in. Storage holds the load until the property is ready, with delivery scheduled when you give the green light.
• Working overseas, household stays in storage — a longer-term arrangement for households temporarily relocated; quote covers monthly storage rate and access terms.

How MTC storage works in practice

• Inventoried containers — your contents go into dedicated wooden containers (or palletised storage for office-style moves). Each container has a written inventory and a barcode; nothing is mixed with other clients' goods.
• Secure facility — UK storage facilities used by MTC have controlled access, CCTV, fire suppression, and pest control. The survey notes which facility your goods are going to.
• Climate-controlled options — for goods that need it (art, instruments, wine, sensitive documents, electronics, antique furniture in delicate condition). Quoted separately.
• Written storage terms — monthly rate, minimum term, access terms, withdrawal procedure. Set out on the quote, not buried in small print.
• Direct access by appointment — you can access your stored goods (or send a representative) on reasonable notice during business hours. Not a self-storage unit you can drop in to whenever; this is supervised access to your specific containers.
• Storage-to-delivery in one quote — when the destination is ready, MTC pulls your containers and delivers to the destination. Same operating model as any other move from us.

Storage on international moves — UK side or destination side

For UK to France, Italy, Spain or Portugal moves where the destination timing isn't locked, storage can be on the UK side (before transit) or on the destination side (after arrival, before destination delivery). Either is part of the international quote. UK-side storage is the default when the move is "uncertain destination" — destination-side storage when the destination region is locked in but the specific property completion is slipping. The surveyor will recommend at survey, you make the call.

What MTC storage isn't

• It isn't self-storage — you can't drop in and grab a box at midnight on a Sunday. If that's what you need, a self-storage operator is the right fit.
• It isn't archival document storage — for businesses with deep paper-archive needs, dedicated archive operators do this better. We're set up for household and commercial-move storage.
• It isn't vehicle, boat, motorcycle or caravan storage. Different facility, different sector.
